Like a Tree ("we," "our," or "the app") is a faith-based daily rhythm app that helps you engage with scripture, reflection, and prayer. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information.

This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and an optional screen name. Your password is stored only as a secure, one-way hash — we never store or have access to your actual password.

Content You Create

The app stores content you create, including notes, reflections, prayer entries, and activity completions. You control the visibility of your content — it is private by default and only shared with others when you choose to do so.

Preferences and Settings

We store your preferences such as timezone, Bible translation choice, reader settings (font size, font family), theme preference (light, dark, or system), and notification preferences.

Social Connections

If you use social features such as Inner Circle or Activity Groups, we store information about your connections, group memberships, and any content you choose to share with those groups.

Push Notification Data

If you enable push notifications, we store the technical information required to deliver notifications to your device (such as push tokens and device identifiers). This data is used solely for delivering the notifications you have requested.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not use analytics or tracking services.
  • We do not use advertising networks or sell your data.
  • We do not use tracking cookies or pixels.
  • We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or other device data.
  • We do not profile your behavior for marketing purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the app (your timeline, reading plans, verse of the day)
  • Authenticate your account and keep it secure
  • Deliver reminders and notifications you have enabled
  • Enable social features you choose to participate in
  • Store and display the content you create

4. How We Share Your Information

Your content is private by default. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With people you choose: When you share content with your Inner Circle or Activity Groups, those members can see the content you have shared.
  • Service providers: We use a limited number of service providers to operate the app, including cloud hosting, email delivery, and push notification services. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services and are bound by their own privacy obligations.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to a valid legal process.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

5. External Services

The app may link to external Bible reading services (such as BibleGateway or YouVersion) based on your preferences. When you follow these links, those services have their own privacy policies. We do not send your personal data to these services.

6. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (TLS) for all data in transit, secure password hashing, and token-based authentication. Access to your data is restricted to your authenticated account.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual notes and content within the app at any time. You can also delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page. Deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited retention period before being permanently removed.

8. Children's Privacy

Like a Tree is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
